How to submit
New submissions will (eventually) be considered on a quarterly basis, typically in February, May, August, and November. For 2018, the following deadlines will apply:
- July 10: Summer abstract deadline
- July 17: Summer deadline
- October 16: Fall abstract deadline
- October 23: Fall deadline
- February 12: Winter abstract deadline
- February 19: Winter deadline
The online submissions system will be available one month prior to each deadline.
Prepare your manuscript
All submissions will be reviewed using a double-blind review process. The identity of authors and referees will not be revealed to each other. To ensure blind reviewing, authors names and affiliations should not appear in the paper; bibliographic references should be made in such a way as to preserve author anonymity.
For initial submission, papers should not exceed 12 pages double column including figures, tables in standard ACM format excluding references. In addition, authors may supplement their paper with an appendix with unspecified length for the sole purpose of justifying the technical correctness of their claims stated in the body (technical part of a long proof to be self-contained, additional experimental validation). The appendix does not count towards the original 12 pages. Papers must be submitted electronically in printable pdf form. Templates for the standard ACM format can be found at this link. Both strict and alternate styles are acceptable for submission. No changes to margins, spacing, or font sizes are allowed from those specified by the style files. Papers violating the formatting guidelines will be returned without review.
For the final publication, papers should be formatted according to the ACM journal template (acmsmall), available at http://www.acm.org/publications/authors/submissions.
You may submit additional electronic materials, such as videos, datasets, benchmarks and source code, to be archived together with your paper in the digital library. In addition, you may use color graphics in the digital library. Print versions may still be black and white, so please ensure your paper is easy to read in both formats.
To ensure proper indexing, classification, retrieval and dissemination, authors must include the following in the manuscript.
- Descriptive Title: The title should accurately and clearly tell what the paper is about. Cute or clever titles will not fare as well with the search engines and filters of the foreseeable future.
- Author Names and Affiliations: Authors’ names should be given without titles or degrees along with the name and address of the organization for which the work was carried out. The author’s current address should be given in a footnote on the first page. Identify the contact author for co-authored work.
- Abstract: The abstract should be 150 to 200 words and consist of short, direct, and complete sentences. It should be informative enough to serve in some cases as a substitute for reading the paper itself. It should state the objectives of the work, summarize the results, and give the main conclusions, but omit future plans and citations.
- Computing Classification System: An important aspect of preparing your paper for publication by ACM Press is to provide the proper indexing and retrieval information from the ACM Computing Classification System (CCS). This is beneficial to authors because accurate categorization provides the reader with quick content reference, facilitating the search for related literature, as well as searches for your work in ACM’s Digital Library and on other online resources. Please read the HOW TO CLASSIFY WORKS USING ACM’S COMPUTING CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM for instructions on how to classify your document using the 2012 ACM Computing Classification System and insert the index terms into your LaTeX or Microsoft Word source file.
- Citations: Please examine the template, as well as current and past issues for examples of proper citation format.

If your submission is accepted (with minor revisions) for publication in POMACS, the following process will be used to get your paper into the publication pipeline:
- You will receive an acceptance notification from the Editors. This will likely come with a set of final comments on your paper that you may wish to address in your camera-ready manuscript.
- POMACS will request materials from you. Shortly after receiving your acceptance notice, you will receive a second e-mail alerting you that the submission system is ready for you to upload your final document materials. This includes source files (in Word or LaTeX), and PDFs of the source files. While there is no enforced deadline for uploading your final materials, please keep in mind that your paper cannot be assigned to an issue until the materials have been reviewed by ACM.
- Your paper will be checked by ACM. These checks will ensure the material is suitable for the publisher and verify that all copyright issues have been addressed. If there is third-party copyrighted material in your manuscript, then it will be necessary for you to obtain the appropriate permissions to use this information. You will also need to indicate as much on your ACM rights management form. If everything is in order, then your materials will be sent for publication.
- Your paper will be published. Your paper will be published in an issue following the notification decision. Papers of authors failing to comply with after-notification deadlines (e.g., submission of camera-ready manuscript) will experience delay in the publication of their article, and will be considered in the next quarterly cycle.
Once your manuscript is published, we recommend that you use the ACM Author-Izer Service. This service allows you to generate and post a link on your homepage or institutional repository to your published article. This link will let any visitors to your personal bibliography pages download the definitive version of the articles for free from the ACM DL. These downloads will be recorded as part of your DL usage statistics. Working with the computing community, ACM leadership has responded to calls to make scholarly articles more openly accessible, to enable authors to exercise greater control of their published works, and to comply with the increasing demands placed on authors by funding agencies.
ACM authors now have three ways to manage their publication rights with ACM:
- A license granting ACM non-exclusive permission to publish—by choosing to pay for perpetual open access from the ACM Digital Library, authors may opt to self-manage all rights to their work.
- A new Publishing License Agreement granting ACM exclusive publication rights—in choosing this license authors grant ACM the right to serve as the exclusive publisher of their work and to manage ongoing rights and permissions associated with the work, including the right to defend it against improper use by third parties. This exclusive license is roughly the equivalent of ACM’s traditional Copyright Transfer Agreement except that the author continues to hold copyright.
